So my life begins as a wife and chef...

So here we are...Mr. and Mrs....The happy couple...

We have been married for almost a month now. It is crazy how fast things happened with us. Two years ago we met working in a restaurant. We started dating, and quickly fell in love...

He is in the Marines, and was deployed to Iraq eight months into our relationship. If that isn't the ultimate test of a relationship's strength, I don't know what is.
We spent seven months apart, with letters, emails, and the occasional phone call holding us together. Being apart from each other made us so much stronger, and he proposed to me when he returned...

We were married August 2, 2008, and so our lives began as a married couple...

I should probably mention that my husband is extremely close to his mother, and more than anything, adores his mother's cooking. So while I am elated to be his wife, and know that he adores me, I don't know that he will adore my cooking. Like most men, he loves to eat. So the pressure is on. How will I ever live up to his mother and provide great meals for him the way that she did?

I guess everyone has to start somewhere. So for me, it will start with my new Better Crocker Cookbook that my mother gave me for Christmas a few years back.

This book is extremely detailed and helpful. I am having his family over for dinner this week, so I guess no better time to try a new recipe than the present...I am scared of how this may turn out...

Like my marriage and cooking, blogging is also new to me...I figured that I could share my journey with all you other new wives or cooks out there and maybe we can learn together...

Here I go on my new wife and cooking adventure...

I'll keep you posted on how the first meal goes...

This will be very interesting, the whole young love, new marriage, fresh start on life together thing and how meals play into it!

I married late in life and my husband's first wife cooked very well for him (and southern style, while I am a Yankee), but she also cheated on him. So I am a wife who lets him fend for himself when it comes to meals and I am as faithful as the day is long, which is more important to him these days. I think its fair enough.

What I am trying to say is that I have never felt compelled to learn cooking, but at times I feel bad that I don't do more for him in that department. Maybe I will try the recipes you succeed with.

Have you thought about enlisting (intentional use of military term) your mother-in-law's help, she might be very flattered that you want to learn from her AND very pleased that you make such great effort toward making her son happy!!

Don't forget to post pictures of how the meals turn out! And then the satisfied smiles of those who partake.

I'm glad I am not the only one who is newly married and learning how to cook! I never really had any interest in cooking, and I just assumed I would be bad at it. But once I got married, I suddenly had this insane desire to learn to cook. And guess what?! I found out I'm not half bad! In my 4 months of marriage, I have made one thing that I really hated [though my husband really didn't mind it...it helps he's not picky!]

All that is to say...I'm glad I'm not alone, and I am looking forward to reading your blog. Also, some websites that I have found incredibly helpful are cooks.com and allrecipes.com [my favorite!]. You should check them out!

Great color scheme, concise information and clear photos are a must for a good blog. Excellent job.

Haha. This is great. I can't wait to see how it goes. Do you have any experience cooking at all...like are you starting from scratch? Becuase if so that would be funny. If not, then you should be fine. As long as you can follow a recipe and not try anything funny, you will do great.
Congrats about the wedding, im planning one right now. Im doing a wedding blog, so if you have any input please vitis my site and let me know anything that helped you out!

Ams, you crack me up! I just want to start out saying that if one of us got the "cooking gene" it would be you! Even though you are already an awesome cook, and enjoy it, it is also the thought that means so much. The love that goes into each meal prepared is so precious! Every couple displays love for one another in different ways, and this is just one way that you display yours. I think we should take a cooking class together-we would have so much fun. In the meantime, just remember,if you are feeling ignored-just whip up a batch of fried chicken and you can pretty much be guaranteed that you will be the dessert! :)

I know that I am extremely late on responding, but Girl, so far this is a great blog. First of all, the title of your blog somewhat interest me. I knew that I knew that it had to do with having a husband, and had an idea that it would be about cooking. Somewhat interested me for two reasons; One, I am not yet married, but have been with my boyfriend for going on three years. The second reason is because I absolutely hate cooking. I only hate cooking because, every time I attempt to make a meal, it turns out terrible. Today I looked at the blog, and it totally caught my attention. The holidays are coming around, and it is time for me to prove to him that I am ready (LOL!). For going on three years, I have probably only made about three successful meals (Terrible, I know). Hey, it is the truth though. I will keep up with what you are posting so that I can get some ideas. Thanks to you, I may be able to shock my boyfriend. I look forward to seeing the meals that you will post! Beautiful blog by the way!!!
